Fighting Dystonia, Chronic Lyme Disease & EDS Type 3… any questions?

The Dr – patient relationship is an important one. As many people with chronic illnesses will know, sadly to often patients experience negative attitudes. However there are some pretty amazing Doctors out there! Here is the latest update in my continuing showdown with my new neurologist.

  1. It’s a shame that you haven’t formed a good relationship with your new consultant. I would try to see it as a positive thing that he has raised the topic of trust between you and hope that this is a sign that he knows you are not getting on and wants to try and change things. I would definitely approach it as an attempt at reconciliation and be open and honest with him: what would be wrong with saying that you know form experience that 6 weeks between injections suits you and that you are very frightened of what will happen if the interval is suddenly lengthened?

I would hope that he might say “I have found that longer intervals are sufficient (and more convenient/cheaper) – can we try to increase (gradually)?” I would have thought that if you could start at the 6 week intervals you want and increase the intervals slowly you might find that you COULD manage with longer intervals – it is always possible that your needs will have changed as you get older.

Unfortunately I think you have already said that your twitching starts coming back after 7 weeks (but at least the problem between you would become one of your not agreeing with each other rather than not trusting one another). If you really cannot get on with each other, it is probably a good thing that your old consultant has offered to mediate: good luck!
